Kids Camp
Every year, we host a summer camp for the children who reside at the Kalamazoo Gospel Mission or kids in need in our community. Our goal is to show them the love of Jesus and share the good news of the Gospel. Our belief is that eternal seeds will be planted and significantly impact their lives. During camp we host local youth pastors who deliver impactful Bible messages, followed by small group discussion and prayer. The word is always our primary focus, but we also tie in a week of special events! These kids rarely get an opportunity to “just have fun and be a kid” so we host a variety of activities which include canoeing, kayaking, giant bounce houses, pottery painting, swimming, games, etc. Head to our ‘Gallery’ section to see photos of our previous camps.
Quarterly Kids Events
Every quarter, we host a fun activity for the children at the Kalamazoo Gospel Mission. Some of those events include; sledding at Echo Valley, Growler’s Baseball games, Fall hayrides & pumpkin painting, Christmas cookie decorating, winter carnivals game nights and family picnic and lake days. It’s always a blessing to serve these kids!
Collection & Delivery of Furniture
Thanks to First Reformed Church of Portage, we have a warehouse full of beds, couches and other basic large household items. We partner with a team of volunteers that delivers furniture to those in need. Many times, we find former homeless families that have been sleeping on the floor and have nothing but the clothes on their back. It is an honor to serve those in need in our community.
Survival Bags
Throughout the year we collect various items for the homeless. When the colder weather comes around, we provide warm clothing and other necessary items for those in need which consists of hundreds of hats, mittens, gloves and socks. During the summer we partner with First Reformed Church of Portage and donate items needed for the kids, flip flops, summer games, snacks & back to school items.
Transition Homes
We have furnished three homes for individuals recovering from addiction or homelessness. We are thankful for our partners to serve in Jesus name!
Drives
We have donation drives that help support kids and their families by collecting items needed, such as coats for the winter, school supplies or toys during Christmas. Over the years Indian Lake Elementary has donated thousands of socks to the Mission kids, with an annual drive they call Socktober.
Family Field Trips
Family is important to us, so we host fun events with the families at the Kalamazoo Gospel Mission. Our goal is to create great memories for them during challenging times.
Men’s & Women’s Ministry
We host weekly Bible studies twice a week at the ‘Kalamazoo Gospel Mission’. We have a dedicated discipleship team who studies the Bible line by line with the residents and street homeless. We have seen changed lives, salvations, water baptisms, Holy Spirit baptisms and the Lord work in a bold and mighty way!
